Most of the searches performed from the Video Store, for instance by clicking the Information monitor or a video shelf title, take you to the Main Browser. In the Main Browser, the results of a search are displayed in a list at the left and information about the highlighted item in the search results list is displayed on the data screen at the right.

<B>Using the search results list</B>
Typically, the search results list provides a subset of all of the titles or people in the database. For example, if you click the Comedy category on the video shelf in the Video Store, the search results list includes only the comedies in the database.

You can advance the search results list using the scroll bar to the right of the list. You can advance to the next item in the list by clicking the PAGE button from the group of buttons at the bottom left. If you're looking for a specific movie or person in the search results list, you may find that it's faster to type the title or name directly into the Search box above the search results list.
<P>
<B>Note:</B> In the All-Movie Guide 2 database, over 177,000 people are referenced. However, when you bring up the Famous People list using the corresponding item in the LIST menu, the list only includes about 37,000 people. The rest of the people (approximately 140,000) are more obscure such as crew members, etc., and therefore comprehensive data is not available for them. Only those people for which a substantial amount of data is available are included in the Famous People list. The other people's data can be accessed using the corresponding hyperlink in one or more of the cast lists. For a complete list of all the people in the All-Movie Guide 2 database, open the Search Wizard in the Video Store, select the People by Name option and then click the View button.

<B>Displaying information about a movie or person</B>
When you select an item from the search results list, the data screen at the right of the Main Browser provides detailed information about the item. For movies, the information includes a summary of the movie, a list of credits, and so on. For people, the information includes a brief biography and a list of works.

From this data screen, you can cross-reference information. For example, if the information describes a movie, you can click any of the names in the credit list to display information about that person. To return to the movie description, just click the BACK button from the group of buttons at the bottom left.

You can also display summary information about movies and people listed on the data screen by right-clicking the item. The summary information is displayed in a pop-up window, rather than on a new Main Browser screen.

<B>Data screen text</B>
The information displayed on the data screen is usually quite extensive and is often presented in sections such as Credits, Awards, and Web Site. The buttons at the top right of the Main Browser assist you in accessing this information more quickly by moving the requested section to the top of the data screen. Note: If the Main Browser screen is not maximized or if the screen is quite small (i.e. 640 x 480), these buttons are often hidden and must be accessed using the BOOKMARK button on the menu bar.

<B>Photographs and movie posters</B>
Some of the celebrity biographies and movie profiles are accompanied by photographs or movie posters. If this is the case, the photograph or poster is displayed at the left of the data screen in place of the search results list. Click the ZOOM button to zoom in on the photograph or poster. When you're done viewing, click the photograph or poster again to return it to its smaller size.

<B>Rating, categorizing or annotating movies</B>
<B>1.</B> Click the ADD button on the menu bar at the top of the Main Browser.
<B>2.</B> Mark the currently selected movie with one of the choices from the drop down menu. Select Annotate to attach an annotation to the movie. If a movie has been annotated or marked with one of the available categories in the ADD menu, a checkmark appears beside the menu item whenever the movie is selected.

<B>Using the LIST menu to alter the contents of the search results list</B>
<B>1.</B> Click the LIST button on the menu bar at the top of the Main Browser.
<B>2.</B> Select one of the possible lists from the drop down menu. To use most of the lists in this menu, you must add movies to the corresponding categories using the items in the ADD menu.

<B>Filtering movies</B>
When the search results list is comprised of movies, the Filter button displays the Criteria Filter window from which you can select criteria to further fine-tune the search results list.

<B>Sorting movies along a timeline</B>
The movies in the search results list can be sorted along a timeline by clicking the TIMELINE button on the Main Browser menu bar. On the window that appears, click a movie to view its profile.
<P>
<B>Matching movies</B>
All-Movie Guide 2 can determine the degree to which the movies in the search results list are matched to a movie that's displayed on the data screen. When you click the MATCH button on the Main Browser menu bar, All-Movie Guide 2 evaluates each movie in the current search results list to determine how closely they match the movie on the data screen. The closeness of the match is indicated by a percentage and the 100 closest movies in the search results list are listed in order of decreasing similarity.

<B>Suggesting movies</B>
All-Movie Guide 2 can suggest movies for you to see based on the ratings you provide using the categories in the ADD menu. Your ratings are saved in your personal profile and then used by All-Movie Guide 2 when making movie suggestions. It is therefore important to select your personal profile, using the Profile and Settings computer in the Video Store, each time you use All-Movie Guide 2. When you click the SUGGEST button on the Main Browser menu bar, All-Movie Guide 2 reorders the current list of movies on the left side of the Main Browser: the first movie in the list is the one that you're most likely to enjoy and the last movie in the list is the one that you're least likely to enjoy. Remember that the more movies you rate, the more accurately the suggestions fit your own tastes.

<B>Printing</B>
The PRINT button on the Main Browser menu bar lets you choose the information that you want to print.

The STORE button in the group of buttons at the bottom left takes you back to the Video Store.

The Corel Web site offers free quarterly updates for the All-Movie Guide 2 database.
